25_02.jpgIn a small, rural Southeastern Missouri town, you really just set out to get a job rather than a mission or life's purpose.  That's what I thought I was doing in the fall of 1979.

My dad was dying with malignant melanoma so leaving the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Social Work mid-semester of my Junior year was the least of my concerns.  After his death that November I needed a job until I returned to school.  With a population of 1,850 Doniphan, Missouri didn't exactly have a variety of offerings.  I knew to take the first, best offer.  An absent employee opened the door of opportunity for me that day when I called Mickey Chiropractic to inquire about a job.  Desperate for help they asked me to come in - just for that day - and help answer the phone.  I answered a lot of phone calls during the next three years before leaving their office, this time for Life University in Marietta, Georgia, to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.

25_031.jpgWorking with Dr. Sam Mickey and his wife, Alice, were some of my favorite years.  25_04.jpgI traveled throughout the US attending chiropractic seminars, meeting hundreds of Chiropractors, and became certified as a "Chiropractic Assistant" (CA) in 1980. The Mickeys gave me the opportunity to participate in every facet of a chiropractic career during those years.  Thinking this was my first experience with chiropractic, I was surprised to be reminded in 1981,  while organizing a local "Posture Poster Contest" for the Missouri State Chiropractic Association, that just nine years earlier I had won the same contest as a 6th grader!

25_051.jpgIn a '77 Cutlass packed to the brim, I drove to Marietta and spent 1982 through 1985 at, then named, Life Chiropractic College.  I love looking back on those years and all the memories and friends that will last my lifetime.  In addition to all the wonderful experiences during those graduate years, I also had the fortune to learn from some of the best Chiropractors in our profession, intern with Dr. Larry Webster at  Lucky Street Clinic in Metro Atlanta, and work as a CA for two large offices in the suburban area.

25_07.jpgGraduation in 1985, held at the Georgia World Congress Center, was a great celebration for my family and friends.  Moving back to the Missouri Bootheel, this time with enough to fill a U-Haul van, was my stepping stone into private practice.  It was the most exciting time of my life, and once again, I had the opportunity to mentor with and learn from some of the best, Dr. Mickey and Dr. Ralph Ungerank in Pocahontas, Arkansas.  My first office, Crews Chiropractic Life Center, was in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and would be home for the next five years until moving to Columbia, South Carolina, in 1991.

25_08.jpgFast forward to 2010 and I can look back to celebrate ten years as a stay-at-home mom before returning to my professional career.  Beginning again as an office manager and marketing assistant for a private office, I then moved on to become a manager with a corporate, multi-clinic chiropractic group before returning to private practice and opening Chiropractic Wellness Center, Inc. in 2001.

Hard to believe it's really been 25 years!  Some memories make it seem much shorter and some make it seem much longer, but all make it completely worthwhile!  Literally, since those first days with Dr. Sam and Alice, learning how the body works and the effect of chiropractic care on helping the body heal itself, my life has changed forever&impacting my philosophy, my choices, my health, and my family!

I'm so happy to share this milestone with my two favorite people in this world!  Pierce, my son, is a student at Vanderbilt University and Charlotte, my daughter, is an Upper School student at Heathwood Hall Episcopal School. 25_09.jpg As my children are getting older and my role as a parent is gradually shifting, I'm celebrating this occasion with a renewed desire and passion for my purpose in life - providing my community with chiropractic care, health education, and wellness resources to live a wellness lifestyle!

I enjoy looking back and remembering all the family, friends, colleagues, and patients who've been part of these first twenty-five years.  And it's a refreshing reminder that in the most unlikely of places or during the most difficult of times, the door of opportunity and adventure is always open and ready for you to step through!

VOTED BEST CHIROPRACTOR 2017!  Thank you, Columbia!
